Demitting is normally a transaction of changing membership from one lodge to another, either within or out of a jurisdiction. It is normally handled between the two lodges involved. The only time a Grand Lodge should become involved is when there is difficulty in this transaction. Before contacting the Grand Lodge for a demit within our jurisdiction, a brother should:
1. Be in good standing financially with his lodge and Grand Lodge.
2. Have written to his lodge at least twice, requesting a demit. If no answer is received
within sixty days send the following to the Grand Secretary:
a. A copy of all written correspondence sent to the lodge pertaining to the request for
demit.
b. A copy of his last dues card.
c. Any other pertinent data.
3. The Grand Secretary will:
a. Make contact with that lodge.
b. Notify the Grand Master, if within thirty-days the lodge has not responded.
4. If the lodge has not responded within sixty-days of the initial contact made by the
Grand Secretary, the Grand Master may issue a demit after the required fees have been
paid.
